Recovery

… so you can get your 100 days!

It’s easy to get caught chasing one storm cycle after another, hitting the slopes day after day and then the next thing you know it’s March and your feet ache, your nagging knee injury is starting to bother you again, and the hot tub and cold one isn’t quite numbing your low back pain. Maintaining a healthy body is essential to performance. Neglecting rest and self-care can have its consequences including aches and pains, muscle imbalances, and an increased risk for injury. Your body needs time to rest and recover.

Our recovery sessions are designed to help you recover faster and prevent injury by keeping your body in proper balance. Mountain Physio & Wellness uses the latest technology and modalities to enhance the ability of the body to recover and perform better so that you can confidently ski day after day.

Recovery sessions typically begin with heat to prepare tissue for treatment and stretching. Myofascial release aids in increasing range of motion and reducing muscle soreness following intense exercise. This could be self-guided using a foam roller, lacrosse ball, or hypersphere; myofascial release can also be achieved with manual therapy techniques and cupping. Trigger point release, including the use of dry needling, can also help to relax sore muscles. The Hypervolt Plus, a handheld percussion massage device, can be used to further assist in relaxing and reducing muscle tone. After improving mobility and range of motion, it is critical to perform activation exercises, especially of your hip and core, to keep your body performing optimally in the days ahead. Kinesio Tape can be used to promote postural changes by facilitating or inhibiting muscle engagement. A recovery session will usually end with use of either the Normatec Pulse 2.0 Recovery System or the NICE1 Therapy System to reduce swelling and promote lymphatic drainage.

When was the last time you took 60 minutes to rest & recover? Book online or call now to schedule and maybe we’ll even share a few tips about our favorite powder stashes!

Here’s some of the technology we bring to you in the comfort of your own home, Airbnb, or hotel. Mountain Physio & Wellness’ goal is to teach you how to continue your rehab and recovery in your own home, but don’t just take our word for it, we encourage you to try it before you buy it!

Venom - Wearable Heat + Vibration

Designed to warm, loosen, and relax stiff muscles. Commonly used at the beginning of a session on the low back or knees after a long day of skiing.

Hypersphere – High Intensity Vibrating Massage Ball

The Hypersphere can be used for trigger point release on your tightest muscles. It is especially helpful for releasing tight hip flexors after all that bootpacking. You can experience the traditional circulation and relaxation benefits of myofascial release amplified by powerful three-speed vibration.

Hypervolt Plus – Handheld Percussion Massage Device

The idea is that vibration and percussion can change the physiology of the body and the way we move. By changing the space between layers of tissue (fascia decompression) we can improve muscle glide. The Hypervolt helps to relax sore and stiff muscles to improve mobility and prevent injury.

Normatec Pulse 2.0 Leg Recovery System – Dynamic Air Compression with Patented Pulse Massage Technology

After a day on the hill, the Normatec system aids in your recovery process. It acts to flush out soreness and bring oxygenated blood to the part of the body furthest from the heart.

NICE1 Cold + Compression Therapy System

The NICE1 uses advanced technology to greatly improve the convenience and efficacy of cold and compression therapy to aid recovery and reduce pain associated with soft tissue injuries. It can feel amazing on your swollen sore knees that took a beating pounding moguls at the end of the day and especially helpful after an acute injury to reduce edema, swelling, and pain. The device works by circulating cooled water (no ice required!) and air through a therapy wrap that is placed on the inured body part. The cooled water circulates through the therapy wrap and provides cold therapy; the air inflates the therapy wrap causing it to compress around the injured body part.
